The best time to go to Zanzibar
Located just south of the equator, Zanzibar has a warm tropical climate. The average annual temperature is 26.5°C. It is particularly warm from December to March, with February being the hottest month. The thermometer then temporarily rises to 39°C.
This warm period is replaced by the first rainy season (masika), which lasts from March to the end of May and is characterized by heavy rainfall. Average rainfall during this period is 249mm. During the second rainy season (vuli) from November to December, occasional weaker downpours then move over the island. The ideal travel time for island visitors is from July to October between these two rainy phases. A light wind blows across the island and ensures pleasant temperatures of around 25°C. The average water temperature on the beaches of Zanzibar is 27°C.
